HISTORY
Donald discovered his passion for dance under Nadine Senior MBE, and pursued this further via Theatre Arts at Intake High School, Leeds under John Auty. In 1997 he was awarded a 1st Class BA Honours Degree from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Donald is a founder member of both Phoenix Dance Company and RJC Dance Theatre and worked extensively with both companies for over 22 years, touring nationally and internationally, performing, teaching, choreographing and directing rehearsal. His work with RJC was intrinsic in the development of a Black British dance style, fusing formal training in contemporary dance with a range of social and cultural dance and music styles. Donald Edwards was among the Phoenix Dance Theatre of which was a nominee for an Lawrence Olivia Award. RJC was the proud recipient of a Black Achievers Award.
MEDIA
Donald has vast media experience during his career for local and national press as well as working along side major companies on televised projects, such as documentary coverage as a member of Phoenix Dance Company as a topic for The South Bank Show, BBC Midlands for The Worsene Project, Channel 4 on both their Dance 4 season and Dance for the Camera and along side Birmingham Royal Ballet on their acclaimed Ballet Hoo! Donald was featured in the Educational programmes for schools with BBC2, based on social dance styles.
